At Barefoot Studio we are big fans of the Pilates method and are proud to teach Classical Pilates, which means it’s pretty close to Joseph Pilates original method. But what about the man himself? Here are 10 facts about Joseph Pilates you may not already know:
- Joseph Pilates was born in Dusseldorf in Germany in 1880
- His wife was called Clara
- Joe was a big fan of skin brushing!
- He opened his studio in New York
- During the first world war he was interned on the Isle of Man
- His father was a prize winning gymnast
- his mother was a natropath
- at one time Jospeh Pilates was a professional boxer
- he called his method ‘contrology’
- Joesph Pilates died in 1967 at the age of 87
